Pacers, Celtics both advance to next round; Pistons and Nuggets win

The Indiana Pacers will advance to the second round of the NBA playoffs after defeating the Milwaukee Bucks 119-118 in overtime, winning their series in five games. Tyrese Haliburton drove for the winning layup with just over a second remaining to pick up the Game 5 win at Gainbridge Fieldhouse on Tuesday.

The Pacers will face the Cleveland Cavaliers in the Eastern Conference semifinals, who swept the Miami Heat in Round 1.

Defending NBA champions Boston Celtics defeated the Orlando Magic 120-89 in Game 5 to win the series 4-1 and advance to the Eastern Conference semifinals. Jayson Tatum led with 35 points, 10 assists and eight rebounds for the Celtics, with Jaylen Brown scoring 23 points with six rebounds and three assists.

Boston will face the winner of the New York Knicks-Detroit Pistons series; the Knicks lead their series 3-2.

The Detroit Pistons beat the New York Knicks in Game 5 on Tuesday night at MSG with a 106-103 win to avoid elimination. Cade Cunningham led Detroit with 24 points, eight rebounds, and eight assists, Ausar Thompson had 22 points and seven rebounds, and Tobias Harris added 17 points, eight rebounds, and four blocks en route to victory. Game 6 will take place at Little Caesars Arena on Thursday.

The Denver Nuggets earned a 131-115 win over the LA Clippers in Game 5 on Tuesday night, giving them a 3-2 series lead. Jamal Murray lead with 43 points, Aaron Gordon added 23, with Russell Westbrook scoring 21 (in his return from a foot injury) and Nikola Jokic earned his 21st career playoff triple-double (18 points, 10 rebounds, 12 assists). Game 6 is Thursday night at the Intuit Dome.
